Dear Data

The wonderful Giorgia Lupi (who I am now obsessed with — friends take note that anything made by Giorgia would be an ideal birthday present *hint hint*) and Stefanie Posavec’s exchange of data postcards inspired our data visualization class to record our own lives every week and represent them in a fun way! Here’s a glimpse of my life through data:

WEEK 1: WINTER LOCKDOWN

As Toronto entered yet another lockdown I tracked the number of times I left my apartment to see if I could detect any patterns. Given that the week I did this was the coldest one I’ve experienced with temperatures of -28 Celcius, I saw that the weather definitely impacted whether or not I left the apartment, as well as my mood. My mood also changed depending on the activity I left the apartment for and allowed me to reflect on the outcome of the activity.

WEEK 2: DATING ON HINGE

Hinge’s algorithm went a bit wild and I had a sudden surge of about 120 likes in 24 hours. I used the opportunity to see how interactions pan out over the course of a week. The process was definitely overwhelming and frustrating to the point that I’ll be taking a break from the app. Note: No hearts were broken in the making of this postcard.
